You see the same news story on a few different stations, that means its important right? All stations are telling the same story, giving the same information and interviewing the same people, yet you still flip around seeing if there is one small piece of fact that you missed on the other station.

With graduation quickly approaching and the fear of not finding a job luring over my head, I have been blessed with thoughts, ideas, and words of wisdom. My favorite of these being delivered in the form of “just look out for number one”. Thank you for those wonderful suggestions on my future, however there is a large issue that I have with that suggestion… How can someone who puts everyone and everything before herself know how to “look out for number one”?
What “number one” am I to look out for? The “one” who decided to stay in Lubbock because after a lifetime of traveling and moving she had finally found a place she could call home. The “one” who knows without a shadow of a doubt that she belongs in a classroom, no matter what grade, location or school looking out for this “one” would be taking the first job offered, no matter where it is. Or the “one” who feels there is something right, that she is not ready to let go, and looking out for this “one” would mean taking a risk, a great risk, with no knowledge that a reward would come, but for her it would be worth it. What about the “one” who, since she was very little, has dreamed about traveling the word, living and teaching in different cities, states and countries. Looking out for the traveling “one” would mean leaving all commitment and ties behind to chase her dream of changing lives all over the world. How could I look out for the “Lubbock One” and the “One in Love” at the same time? How could I look out for the “one” who wants to travel around the world at the same time I am looking out for the “one” who wants to take the first job offered?
For someone who is not used to being number “one” in her own life, it is a struggle to think of putting herself first in a time of such seriousness. How can someone who turns to her family and loved ones know what “one” comes first? First in front of love and dreams, or first in front of a plan. I am not one for taking many risks, however when am I to know the “Risky One” is to be in first priority?
So as I sit here, up way past my bed time, with way too many thoughts rolling through my mind, I would like to thank you for the advice. Thank you for reminding me I struggle to put myself first in any situation. After reflecting on this fact I feel I deserve to put myself first and LOOK OUT FOR NUMBER ONE.
Which “one” should I look out for, every part of me still involves someone else.
